Dr. Anil. V. Shah Best Paper Award

1. Any member of IPS-WZB may present the scientific papers for “Dr. Anil V. Shah Best Paper Award”.

2. To be eligible for the award the paper must fulfill each of the following criteria.

(a) It must be a research paper based on work done in India. It must not have been published in a scientific journal or have been awarded any award of the IPS.

(b) For the sake of uniformity of style the paper shall be prepared in accordance with the “Instructions to contributors” published in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry(IJP)/Annals of Indian psychiatry(AIP) (www.anip.co.in). Only Original articles following ethical standards and approved by the institutional ethics committee will be considered for this award. The word limit is 3000 excluding references with a structured abstract of not more than 250 words.

(c) The principal author must be a member of IPS and at least 50% of all authors (including the presenting author) must be members of the IPS at the time of the submission of the paper. If the presenting author has applied for membership to IPS, a proof of the receipt issued by the Treasurer of IPS or transaction details should be submitted with the full paper on or before the submission date.

(d) It is mandatory for the presenting author to register as a delegate for the Annual conference of the IPSWZB at the time of submission for the award

(e) Only those papers with registered delegates and IPS membership will be considered for peer review process. The rest of the entries would be discarded.

(f) Any member who has won this award in the immediately preceding year and who appears either as an author or co-author of paper shall not be eligible to contest for “Dr. Anil V. Shah Best Paper Award”.

3. For the paper to be considered for the award, it shall be necessary for the author to submit soft copy (e- copy) of the full paper to the Chairperson, Awards Committee, by a date to be determined by the Executive Council of IPSWZB. The covering letter should mention the membership status with membership number and should be signed by all the authors. For online submission of the full paper, articles should be prepared in two files (first page file and article file as per IJP/AIP journal guidelines) as they will be sent for blind review. Images should be submitted separately.

First Page File: Prepare the title page, covering letter, acknowledgement, etc. using a word processor program. All information which can reveal your identity should be here. Use text/rtf/doc/pdf files. Do not zip the files.

Article file: The main text of the article, beginning from Abstract till References (including tables) should be in this file. Do not include any information (such as acknowledgement, your names in page headers, etc.) in this file. Use text/rtf/doc/pdf files. Do not zip the files. Limit the file size to 400 kb. Do not incorporate images in the file. If file size is large, graphs can be submitted as images separately without incorporating them in the article file to reduce the size of the file

4. The manuscripts will be assessed as per guidelines laid down under the following headings

a) Topic, title, its relevance, methodology, statistical tests – 20 marks

b) Literature search, references, bibliography- 20 marks

c) Presentation of results and discussion – 30 marks

d) Conclusions and clinical implications – 10 marks

e) Clarity, lucidity, precision of language and overall elegance of the paper- 20 marks

5. A panel of 3 judges shall rate each paper, both for the written version and the presentation. To be eligible for presentation the manuscript must be assessed, to have scored more than 40% of the marks (i.e. 24 out of 60 or more). The best three papers will be permitted to be presented at the conference due to constraints of time. This rule may be relaxed in unusual situation at the discretion of the Awards Committee with the approval of the Executive Council. The Chairperson, Awards Sub Committee of IPS-WZB will inform all the presenting authors of the selected entries prior to the conference

6. The paper securing the highest total marks shall win the Award, provided it scores not less than 50% of the maximum marks. In case of a tie the concerned papers will be declared joint winners

7. The paper winning the title must be presented at the “BPS Silver Jubilee Award” Session at the ANCIPS to be held in January in the next calendar year. The principal author must sign an undertaking to this effect. The presenting author remains the same for presentation in BPS Silver Jubilee Award. If the presentation has not been done at ANCIPS, the award will not be conferred onto the winners in the subsequent IPSWZB conference, as is the rule. The last date for submitting the award entries to “BPS Silver Jubilee Award” Session at the ANCIPS is usually by November.

8. Authors of the award winning papers shall be considered to have won the award and will be issued certificates and will be eligible for the awards money which will be handed over at the next annual conference of IPSWZB to the principal/ presenting author

9.The decision of the Chairperson, Scientific Committee and Chairperson, Awards Sub Committee of IPS-WZB will be final & binding to all concerned
